School In Thailand Brings Peace, Happiness, And Opportunity To Orphaned And Abused Girls

“These girls come from poor families or broken homes; some are orphans, violently abused or at-risk of being sexually abused,” said Acharn Yai, Director and Principal of Dhammajarinee Whitney School.

A Buddhist boarding school (the first and only) in Thailand is filling in the gaps left by society – providing a safe-haven for abused, orphaned girls and giving them the education they deserve. In addition to a standard academic curriculum, students learn about Buddhist teachings and general life-skills. They also incorporate the Transcendental Meditation technique into their school days.

“Back home I was hot-tempered. Since I learned TM, I feel a lot calmer. I feel that I am happier and my learning ability is better, relationships are improved. I feel that I’m happy all day.” –Mai, 16

The Technique: Transcendental Meditation is a simple, natural, effortless technique practiced 20 minutes twice each day while sitting comfortably with the eyes closed. It is easy to learn and enjoyable to practice, and is not a religion, philosophy, or lifestyle. Over six million people have learned it — people of all ages, cultures, and religions — and over 380 published research studies have found that the TM technique markedly reduces stress, anxiety, and fatigue, and promotes balanced functioning of mind and body.
