A study reported last year found that when 73 residents (average age:81) of old age homes were randomly assigned to groups that practiced transcendentalmeditation, relaxation, or nothing, the TM group showed the greatest improvementin blood pressure, memory and survival. Though the numbers were small, theresults were arresting. Everyone in the TM group was alive after three years;12.5 percent of the relaxation group and 37.5 percent of the control groupdied. Any victory against aging should be savored.
