This study found that people who participated in a Maharishi Ayur Veda physiological purification program for one week improved significantly in general well-being, energy, vitality, strength, stamina, appetite, digestive patterns, state of mind, emotions, youthfulness and rejuvenation. Control subjects who received only intellectual knowledge of Maharishi Ayur Vedafor the same amount of time did not show the same improvement. These findings indicate that the Maharishi Ayur Veda purification program promotes physiological and psychological balance.

Meta-analysis is a scientific procedure for drawing definitive conclusions from large bodies of research, by combining the results of many studies. A statistical meta-analysis conducted at Stanford University of all available studies (146 independent outcomes) indicated that Transcendental Meditation program was much more effective in reducing trait anxiety than all other meditation and relaxation techniques, including progressive muscle relaxation. Analysis showed that these positive results could not be attributed to subject expectation, experimenter bias, or research design.

A random sample of practitioners of Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation program and matched control subjects found that after an average of 19 months practicing Transcendental Meditation, usage levels of all substances declined significantly, while usage levels of controls did not change over the same period. Length of time meditating and regularity of meditation were positively correlated with decrease substance usage (ref. 1). Twenty-four studies have consistently found that the Transcendental Meditation program reduces use of all categories of drugs (refs. 2 and 3).

Employees practicing Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation program an average 11 months showed significant improvements at work compared with members of a control group. Relationships with co-workers and supervisors improved, and job performance and job satisfaction increased, while the desire to change jobs decreased (ref. 1). The results of this study were replicated in a study with several control groups, which also found significant improvements in the same areas (ref. 2).

259 male felon parolees of the California Department of Corrections who learned Transcendental Meditation while in prison had fewer new prison terms and more favorable parole outcomes each year over a five-year period after release compared to carefully matched controls. The Transcendental Meditation program was shown to significantly reduce recidivism during a period of six months to six years after parole, whereas several other programs did not consistently reduce recidivism.
