Is TM easy for people with ADHD? Even kids?

TM does not require concentration, controlling the mind or disciplined focus—challenges for anyone with ADHD. What’s significant about these new findings is that among children who have difficulty with focus and attention, we see the same results....these children are able to do TM, and do it easily.

– Dr. Sarina Grosswald, Executive Director, Office of ADHD and Learning Differences, David Lynch Foundation

What is TM?

It’s a simple, natural technique practiced twice each day while sitting comfortably with the eyes closed.

The TM technique is easy to learn and enjoyable to practice, and is not a religion, philosophy, or lifestyle. Over six million people have learned it — people of all ages, cultures, and religions.

What happens during TM?

The TM technique allows your mind to easily settle inward, through quieter levels of thought, until you experience the most silent and peaceful level of your own awareness — pure consciousness. This is known as automatic self-transcending.

This introductory video provides a clear description of what happens during TM practice.

How is TM taught?

The TM technique is always taught by a certified TM teacher through personal one-on-one instruction. On each of the following 3 days, there’s a session (often in a group) to discuss experiences, ask questions that arise, and confirm you’re getting the maximum benefit from your TM practice.

The current findings indicate that children with ADHD can not only learn the TM technique but also benefit from it, the researchers report in the online journal Current Issues in Education.

'The effect was much greater than we expected,' lead researcher Sarina J. Grosswald, a cognitive learning specialist in Arlington, Virginia, said in a written statement.

'The children also showed improvements in attention, working memory, organization, and behavior regulation,' she added. Full article
