What’s Making Students Happier, More Self-Confident, And Less Anxious?

A new study found that regular Transcendental Meditation practice can significantly reduce anxiety and increase resilience among urban youth. The study was conducted by WestEd, a respected educational research, development, and service agency. Students involved in the study also self-reported increased happiness and self-confidence, and improved sleep.

“What we’re doing here is setting the conditions for learning, and that’s not rocket science, that’s thoughtful, and intentional deliberate work. All schools should be like this. This shouldn’t be an exception.”

The Video: Produced and edited by the David Lynch Foundation. Over the past several years, full TM scholarships have been given to more than 500,000 at-risk students, military veterans and others in need, through initiatives such as the Quiet Time program, and partnerships with other non-profit organizations and foundations.

The Technique: Transcendental Meditation is a simple, natural, effortless technique practiced 20 minutes twice each day while sitting comfortably with the eyes closed. It is easy to learn and enjoyable to practice, and is not a religion, philosophy, or lifestyle. Over six million people have learned it — people of all ages, cultures, and religions — and over 380 published research studies have found that the TM technique markedly reduces stress, anxiety, and fatigue, and promotes balanced functioning of mind and body.
